Chip's Picks

Tommasi Maremma Toscana Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2009  Italy (Tuscany)
A ripe, fruity red, bursting with cherry and plum flavors, with an herbal undertone.  A light super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that will make a cheerful companion to spaghetti with Bolognese sauce or veal involtini stuffed with bread crumbs, parsley and pecorino cheese. Juicy in texture, this is bright and lightly tannic on the finish.  Best from 2012 through 2020. 2,000 cases made.

14 Hands - Hot to Trot 2010 Washington (Columbia Valley)
A plush framework of soft tannins supports the red and dark fruit flavors that leisurely give way to subtle notes of baking spice and mocha on the finish.  A blend of predominantly Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Shannon Ridge Petite Sirah 2009 California (Lake County)
This opaque and India ink colored Petite Sirah is quite friendly for the grape. It opens with a ripe blackberry bouquet with a hint of mild oak. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, balanced, and easy going. The flavor profile is a mild black currant with notes of black licorice. The finish is dry and its dusty and chewy tannins are rather sticky and show some length. This Petite Sirah is smooth on the palate and big on the finish. Pair it with barbecue steak tips.

Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV France (Champagne District)
A memorable, full-bodied brut with assertive, complex flavors and a lingering finish. Aromas of fresh bread and toasted walnut are backed up by crisp, full-bore fruit flavors. Drink now.

Martin Ray Pinot Gris 2006 California (Mendocino County)
Shows fresh, vibrant quince and lemon aromas, with crisp lemon, mint and flint flavors that build to a bright finish. Drink now. 1,750 cases made.
